There are however, some advantages to be gained by working from photographs in the comfort of your own studio, especially in this age of digital photography. The images captured can be enhanced in many different ways, a real advantage for the more creative painter. Colour, texture, contrast and many other features can be easily adjusted by using relatively simple software. Probably the most used feature will be the means to crop the image to any proportion and within a few seconds to have a hard copy printed off and ready to use. Cropping has always been an important tool and can provide numerous options with regard to composition, proportion and scale. In some instances it is possible to consider as many as five or six compositional arrangements from one photographic image. An example of this is shown in the photograph showing crop variations.
